Listless, but the monkey woman calls

I've been listless ever since I got back from Cincinnati. The time change and the long drive seem to have done me in. I did have an email today asking about the monkey woman though so that was neat. The monkey woman is an old myth about a bridge in the Smyrna, Tennessee area where your car would stall and an evil monkey woman would appear and scratch the roof of your car. The actual area is pretty spooky. I wrote a story using the myth and if you're really bored go check it out at goblinhaus.com.

Actually, the monkey woman bridge is down in Columbia, Tennessee. Shes part woman part monkey and hates women. She sits at the top of the bridge. Only women can see her, and when they walk onto the bridge and look up, shes there and will jump down and chase you off the bridge and if you don't get off, she will attack you. No one knows if shes a ghost or not.

Monkey Woman Bridge is in Smyrna, TN on One Mile Lane, just off Almaville Road. At one time it was a one lane wooden bridge with the tall metal arches. It has since been torn and modernized, but SHE is still there...

Most of the posters are correct. I have lived in the Smyrna, TN area since '76 and I have always known about Monkey Woman Bridge. It goes over Stewart Creek, is a two lane bridge (one each direction) with NO shoulder. It is located on One Mile Lane between the four-way stop sign where One Mile Ln (two directions), Milesdale Ln and Peebles Dr intersect AND Quarter Mile Ct, closer to Quarter Mile Ct. I don't recall any reconstruction of the bridge in recent times unless it was done when the road moved where One Mile intersects Almaville Rd., but that was done much longer ago than '08. Part of the old road can still be seen several hundred feet closer to I-24. It used to be very narrow and run along side the cemetary that can also been seen near there. The reconstruction of the bridge was done probably when they moved the road over. Aside from the car-scratching story, I have heard that a "woman" roams the area looking for a lost child. I don't which one is "true".

The Bridge in Smyrna before remodeled use to turn sharply after you crossed it and then went along the creek past the cemetery.. I always heard that a woman failed to turn and ran into the side of the bridge.. Her baby was ejected from the car.. Dark and raining heavily the woman got out to look for her child and while calling it’s name a motorist came from the other direction striking and killing her.. It said that you can still go to the bridge late at night and hear the woman calling for her child..
