Sinusitis and the Perils of Growing Old
I felt great last Friday until I didn't. I was on the road to Mule Town on 840 when a sudden feeling of dizziness came over me. Perhaps I was dehydrated. Or maybe I was dying. I just knew I was halfway to where I was going and I didn't want to turn around. I had to concentrate. If I could just get to where I was bound the dizziness would go away. I cranked the AC up. I drank my soda and ate the crumbly Pop Tart I had stowed in the console just in case I got hungry. Figured if I got my blood sugar up normalcy would return.
I arrived in Mule Town in one piece so I hit Variety Records. I came out with a bunch of Jimmy Martin records, a Stanley Brothers one, and a couple of private pressed random bluegrass records. I also picked up the Brains record I didn't have which was cool. I talked to the guy working the counter about Van Halen....picking up a conversation we'd had since the last time I was in there almost 2 years ago...and some other customer started telling us how he hated David Lee Roth. He informed us "David was a clown. The band got good after Sammy Hagar joined. He could really sing." Oh, it was all I could do to not lay into such an obvious idiot. But I still felt dizzy.
I walked around the square and visited the local bookstore. I got a book on the disappearing Appalachia in Tennessee. I actually do live in a county that is considered part of Appalachia so I guess I'm an honorary mountain man. The ongoing destruction by developers in Tennessee is running rampant. Better look around today because by tomorrow that field will be filled with houses. I really need a wealthy benefactor to bestow upon me a cabin in the middle of nowhere.
I made it back home from Mule Town by cutting my trip into segments. The dizziness persisted. I eventually came to a completely non-medical self diagnosis that I have a sinus infection. It's either that or I'm dying. My money is on the sinusitis. It's still making me feel wonky 5 days later and that's par for the course with these things or so the AI overlords tell me. It should be 8-10 days to get over this junk. I've been blessed to able to work from home. However if I've not better by Monday I suppose I will have to see one of the pharmaceutical salesmen once known as doctors. That is really the greatest peril in growing old. Falling into the lap of entities that don't wish to get you better, but just to keep you just sick enough to have to keep seeing them. That's as much a nightmare for me these days as is all of the onceler developers hellbent on creating the slums of tomorrow. Peace out. More posts with cool stuff will come again eventually.

Carboline Not Glue
The blog has been dormant since the Sir Cecil Creape posts due to general all around busyness. We had to go back to the office which means I now have to commute 3 hours a day again. It didn't use to bother me so much before Covid, but now it's quite torturous. I did get a few days off of late, but that was so I could go see Billy Strings play a 3 night stand in Nashville. The first 2 shows were at Bridgestone and the last took place at the Ryman. All 3 night's were incredible, but going to Nashville 3 days in a row was a little tiring. If you've never seen Billy Strings live I highly recommend it.
Now for the title of this post. It's derived from the Ramones song "Carbona Not Glue" which was taken off the Leave Home album after the company which manufactured Carbona threatened to sue them. At least I think that's the story. My laziness is such today I don't even want to fact check myself. Feel free to comment if you find my story inaccurate.
This isn't about the Ramones though. Man, I miss those dudes, but we've still got the tunes. This is about my poor bald head. I typically don't think much of it. Sure, I think about getting a wig like Theo Von's sometimes.....that is a wig he's wearing, right, but it's a fleeting thought. What I think I really need is to grow my hair again like the folks in the 1880's must have been doing with the product Carboline. I ran across this ad for it in the July 9, 1881 addition of the Ripley Advertiser which was a newspaper in Ripley, Mississippi. Ripley is where my Mama's side of the family is from. I was looking through it for genealogical purposes, but how could I skip reading the "A Chance For Baldheads" headline. Alas, you can't get Carboline anymore. When I googled it I found an entire website devoted to hair tonics. It is a web version of a book titled Hair Raising Stories by Don Fadely. I've swiped one photo from the site to show a Carboline bottle. That should be fair use in my book since I'm linking to his site.

Part One can be found here, Part Two is located here, and here is Part Three. Let's continue the review of what movies and if list which episodes of Thriller were shown during the WSM Channel Four horror movie series Creature Feature which ran on Saturday nights at 10:30PM. The great Sir Cecil Creape hosted these shows and was often the main reason to tune in to the show. This list will have 1973 up to the last Saturday night show. It would get moved to Saturday afternoon once the baseball season ended. I've provided a short synopsis of each entry. Many of the episodes shown during 1973 featured films previously shown. When this is the case I will note the other air dates and you can refer back to previous posts if you want more information.

Creature Feature 1971-1973 What Did Sir Cecil Creape Show On WSM Channel 4 Nashville? Part Three
Part One can be found here and Part Two is located here. Let's continue the review of what movies were shown during the WSM Channel Four horror movie series Creature Feature which ran on Saturday nights at 10:30PM. The great Sir Cecil Creape hosted these shows and was often the main reason to tune in to the show. This list will have the second half of 1972. I've provided a short synopsis of each entry. If you want more information you can always go to IMDB, google it, or you can buy the forthcoming book by Larry Underwood AKA Dr. Gangrene all about Nashville horror movie hosts and the films they showed.
Now called Creature Features in the television guide each show would begin with episodes of the Boris Karloff hosted series Thriller before showing a sci-fi or horror film. These Thriller episodes were labelled "Karloff Special" and they would switch to being shown after the films in 1973. I'm listing "Karloff Special" with a note on the episode if the paper listed it, followed by the movie that aired. If the movie ran previously on Creature Feature(s) I'm just noting that. You can look at a previous post to see my brief summary and a movie poster of it.
July 1, 1972 "Karloff Special" This episode of Thriller is "Girl with a Secret"
The Disembodied 1957 Previously aired on January 29, 1972
July 8, 1972 "Karloff Special" Fright 1956

Creature Feature 1971-1973 What Did Sir Cecil Creape Show On WSM Channel 4 Nashville? Part Two
Well, I suppose it's appropriate that I have to do this post all over again. It was originally posted on January 22, but I decided to add some information and somehow deleted the entire thing. What a drag. That's going to push part three and four out. Part One can be found here. Let's continue the review of what movies were shown during the WSM Channel Four horror movie series Creature Feature which ran on Saturday nights at 10:30PM.
