The wait is over. The world has been clamoring for the 7th installment of my look back at the Lucy's Record Shop calendar during April, May, and June of 1994. Actually, I doubt the if the world is clamoring for this, but you're getting it anyways. I thought about adding some historical context with this edition, but other than to note that we enter the post-Cobain world after April 8, 1994 I feel like you can do your own research.
So, I was chugging along as usual and then I noticed YouTube had decided to make using embedded videos very difficult. Easy to post for me, but a pain in the rear for folks who decide to click on an embedded video. You are asked to sign in to prove you're not a robot. I know that the internet is replete with bots and now AI garbage, but this infernal gatekeeping by YouTube is onerous. This development took away one of my favorite parts of making these posts. So, this led to a general indifference on my part. You couple that with a massive lack of free time and then this post got later and later.
There's also the fact that my band, Dragula, begins its Lucy's time on April 22, 1994 and I become very conflicted. I've written about Dragula here before. Did I want to write about us again? I actually did, but the lack of time is once again the main cow of reasons this calendar post will be barebones as will the rest of them. I'm sorry about that, but it's my blog and I can do what I want. I know it's not enough, but just seeing the names of all the great artists that performed at Lucy's should do my faithful few readers a little good I hope.
The usual customary disclaimer: these listings were subject to change at the last minute so even a band or solo act is said to have performed at Lucy's on that date, there is a chance they didn't. I got my data from old newspaper listings mixed with Lucy's calendars I either own or were able to find online. Perhaps Donnie or Mary have better sources since they owned the store, but as of the date of this post I've yet to find a definitive list. My lists may be superseded someday, but for now this is probably your best resource if you want to know who most likely performed there and when.

The April Fools this year are Brutus Fly who are back for a second gig, the Lillywhites, and local favorites Jack who are back for their 10th listed appearance at Lucy's. I can't find out anything on the Lillywhites so if anybody knows about them let me know in the comments. (Who am I kidding....nobody ever tries to leave a comment anymore.)
April 2nd has the Simple Ones originally called the Simpletones from Memphis, locals Medicinal Porpoises who I featured in my fifth Lucy's calendar post, and Duluth, Minnesota's finest Low. Low's reputation has only grown over the years as they are acknowledge as one of the best "slowcore" bands even though they hated the term. It's been my experience over the years that most musicians hate being pigeonholed into one category. Low was on tour promoting their I Could Live In Hope album which had been released in February. This was the first of 4 appearances at Lucy's by Low. Look for more on them in a later post.
I can't dig up any readily available information on Etienne Bn Colour or Buddy and the Professor. There is a David Dobson known for being a photographer of the front covers of several Christian music artists' albums. Perhaps it's the same person. The Cherry Blossoms are a Nashville institution by now. I've seen them many times over the years, but I wasn't at this show on April 7th. The Google AI says The Cherry Blossoms play shaggy folk music. I think they play Cherry Blossoms music.
