Sunday Showcase Review October 13, 1991

It's been 3 years since Tom Petty passed away, but we still have memories and music. This week's Sunday Showcase review features Mr. Petty on the cover. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were on the road promoting Into The Great Wide Open and had a show at Starwood coming on October 17, 1991. The only person cool enough to share the cover with Tom is Carl Weathers.

Tennessean music writer Robert K. Oermann did an interview with Tom. Clicking on the photo should allow you to make it bigger.

Love Is A Long Road

A whole show from October 22, 1991 in Miami

I would say calling Lewis Grizzard "The Mark Twain of Our Time" was hyperbole on steroids. Does anyone today still read the books of his humor that were published during his heyday? He was mildly amusing in an ephemeral way that is very outdated now.

The Cannery was featuring some metal flavored music that coming Thursday. I don't remember Mr. Make Believe, but that's a great band name perhaps inspired by the Gene Simmons solo tune. Ballistic Whiplash were awesome and Dr. Gonzo were entertaining. Friday night was more traditional rock with the KDF 6 pack show and then metal is back on Saturday. The  always classic $5 admission too.

Numbskull live

I'd usually post the top ten songs of the week here, but by 1991 the charts had been split into three versions with contemporary, country, and urban. I'm against segregation so I'm not going to bother with listing them. So we'll end this very short review with an Ernest Scared Stupid ad and trailer.

How about a bumper sandwich, booger lips.
