December 5, 1984 (Revisiting the Past)

I'm going back through what comprised my senior year of high school and first semester of college in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Come along for the ride. New posts every day or so mixed in with other things.

December 5, 1984. The playwright John Guare is saying that his play The House of Blue Leaves cannot be performed if it's censored, plus Riverdale hadn't bothered to pay the license to put it on. The plot just keeps getting thicker. There are a couple more letters to the editor published. One is pro and one is con.

If a black comedy featuring cursing and lampooning of the Catholic Church being censored is not weird enough for sleepy Murfreesboro back in 1984, there's a small story about the arrest of some gypsies who then keep the local police force entertained. There's probably a play in that story somewhere.

The Warriors continue their winning ways with a victory over the Patriots. The season had barely begun, but I could tell it was going to be a season of magic for the boys team.
