January 4, 1985 (Revisiting the Past)

I'm going back through what comprised my senior year of high school and first semester of college in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Come along for the ride. New posts every day or so mixed in with other things.

January 4, 1985. The new year dawned with some warm temperatures and then quickly went cold again with snow being an almost constant in January and February of 1985. We would end up losing our spring break, but that was better than extending school well into June. Basketball was still the only thing really on my mind. The Cookeville Cavaliers came to town on Friday night and while the girls team was disappointing on this night the boys team maintained their perfection with destruction of Cookeville even with power forward Willie Verge suffering from the flu. Here's the recap from the January 5, 1985 DNJ. I love the "show biz-type of performance" line as this is exactly what this Warriors team was like to watch. They loved to run and gun and that would often begin with extreme defensive full court pressure. This would lead to breakaway layups and dunks that would really get the crowds excited.
